They wanted her to go to rehab, and despite the lyrics of the song, she went. It didn’t help. They couldn’t put peace in a pill and expect a realist not to have an allergic reaction to it. Everyone had a solution and never fully understood the problem…..”addiction”.
Amy Winehouse not only understood her problem, she detailed it in 23 songs. Brilliance seems to come in small quantities.
Over the last few days, I’ve seen the media and the public, do what they do best…judge and tear down someone who can’t defend themselves. Rather the media and many of the public realize it or not, they too have an addiction….”scandal”. They loved every moment of public drunkenness. They got high off of the fights, the cuts, the slurred speech, the weight loss. They loved these things every bit as much as I loved Amy’s voice and the stories she sung to us.
Most artists need pain to create and some artists need death to have peace
I bet even in death she’s still has a drink in her hand, because these sad addicts of scandal are so drunken in disillusionment, that they don’t even realize this isn’t a scandal. It’s a tragedy.
I’ve read Facebook statuses that said that she didn’t care about life. These bias / wanna be pious judges of another persons existence.
My bias, comes as an artist, in that I could care less about the lifestyle habits of another artist. I’m concerned with the quality of art. Amy Winehouse was a type of Billie Holiday maturated in this society. An old soul, with a problem as old as time.
I can understand how it’s easier to find peace at the bottom of a bottle, the end of a joint, or the barrel of a syringe, when the one you love acts like he doesn’t love you. Loving yourself isn’t always enough.
I have a friend who wouldn’t see past the drugs and the liquor. He would never acknowledge her talent.
If you didn’t think she was a great song writer then you haven’t read enough books to know what great poetry is.
If you didn’t think she was a hell of a singer, then you you obviously know nothing about music.
A brilliant artist has died. She didn’t pass away. Artist don’t pass away.
“Love is a fatal resign/ Over futile odds……..And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame……Love is a losing game “.
– Amy Winehouse “Love is a Losing Game”
